Music Liberation Union was founded in October 2007 by a group of students of architecture (Rolins Roy, Pooja Ugrani, Arun Mohan, Sagar and Gayatri) and a practising architect (Sabu Francis) to promote the study of music in the new context of India. It was inspired by a workshop conducted by Mr. Sabu Francis (on behalf ot the Navi Mumbai centre of Indian Institute of Architects) at a college of architecture in Navi Mumbai where the connection between music and architecture was explored. Since its inception, we have held several events where various people displayed their knowledge of music by playing music; mostly original while also generally having a great time by giving useful feedback.

Instead of restricting membership only to those involved in architecture the membership of M.L.U was thrown up to the general public.

This website will be the central repository for all the members. MLU is NOT a music group, but it is a platform for original music in India. This will contain all kinds of knowledge, thoughts, inspiration, technical matters, etc all to do with achieving this goal.

Zygnema – Born of Unity

My first taste of Zygnema was at Hammerfest held over a month ago, not live, but after buying their CD and listening at home.   Knowing nothing about the band except for the fact that they play groove metal I began listening without any pessimis [...]

Scribe at SPE, Kolkata

On an unconventional version (not to mention, facetious) of the clichéd list of 1001 things do before you die, watching Scribe in Calcutta (I refuse to refer to it as Kolkata) sits comfortably and peculiarly at # 337, sandwiched between ‘a truce for th [...]

Atmosfear Vocalist Ulhas Parts Way With the Band

Atmosfear has been one of the more prominent local bands in Mumbai for quite some time now. They’ve been a part of most of the gigs I’ve been to over here, so it saddened me when I heard that Ulhas, the vocalist, was leaving the band. This is the mess [...]
